La ciutat és col.loquialment coneguda amb el nom de "la ciutat rebel", a causa del paper predominant que va tenir durant la guerra de la independència irlandesa.
Cork, després de Dublin i Belfast, és la tercera ciutat de l'illa i és,probablement, la més irlandesa de totes, conservant la seva essència popular i industrial. La ciutat es troba literalment construida sobre el riu Lee, dividit en dos canals . El centre de la població es troba a l'illa creada pels canals.
Els seus carrers van ser renovats l'any 2005, quan la ciutat fou capital europea de la cultura. Els principals punts d'interès són: el carrer de Saint Patrick, la catedral de Saint Fin Barres (estil gòtic francès), i el riu Lee.
The city is colloquially referred to as "The rebel city", attibuted to the prominent role Cork played in the Irish War of Independence.
Cork, following to Dublin and Belfast, is the third island city and, probably, it is the most Irish one, preserving its popular and industrial essence. The city is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels. The city centre is located on the island created by the channels.
Their streets were completely rebuilt in the year 2005, when it was European Capital of Culture. The main interest points places are: Saint Patrick's street, Saint Fin Barre's cathedral (French- Gothic style) and the River Lee.
