PRIMERA LLIÇÓ A JERUSALEM: MAI MÉS CAMINARÉ AMB LES MANS A LES BUTXAQUES! / JERUSALEM’S FIRST LESSON: WALKING WITH HANDS IN MY POCKETS NEVER AGAIN!

Tel Aviv is not Jerusalem. While in Tel Aviv the days  seem to pass in a more relaxed way, life in Jerusalem is not so easy. Police and army are everywhere and nobody knows when a conflict can start. I could check myself how difficult the current situation is.

I was heading to  David Tower main entrance,  not walking slowly because closing time came soon.  Suddenly, a police came to me and in a very rude way asked me: “What do you have in your pockets?  A weapon?  A knife?  Drugs?”  Of course, carrying  all this would not be a good idea in my first travel to  Jerusalem. Luckily my pockets were empty and while his colleagues were arriving, He understood that I was just a tourist without intention of causing harm.  Of course, travelling with a female company can help me in certain situations.

Once inside, when enjoying the Tower of David I was thinking about why that police reacted in such a rude way. As referred above, Jerusalem is a city in permanent conflict and had suffered too much from violence. While thinking about this I realized that sometimes I use to walk with my hands in pockets and I understood everything. A person walking quickly with hands in pockets heading to an important monument is suspicious. I will never forget that and never again I will do it in Jerusalem.
